Dr John Heavens
John is a Director of SDC Consulting. Prior to joining SDC in July 2004, John was Head of IM&T for three years (and, for one of those, Head of Modernisation) at Good Hope Hospital NHS Trust in Birmingham (UK) followed by one year as Orion Systems Ltd UK Clinical Consultant. He is a South African trained Paediatrician who spent 14 years in clinical practice before moving into a Health Informatics career. Over the past 17 years he has been involved in a wide range of health informatics and modernisation activities, including 4 years in the NHS. He is a former President of the South African Health Informatics Association (SAHIA), Chair of the Pan-Birmingham Cancer Network IT Group and has been a part-time health informatics lecturer at a number of institutions, including Warwick University (UK) and the University of Cape Town (South Africa).
